It is said that the best way to learn is by starting at the bottom. 

Keeping this in mind Murray is your "deckie" on each trip. His past life as a Draftsman, IT Security  Administrator, Courier and even Real Estate Sales count for little when it comes to working on a charter boat.

Having an interest in fishing, meeting people and looking for a change of lifestyle, Murray and partner Yvette decided to buy the Arline when it came up for sale in 2006. Always on the lookout for ways of improving the boat, your fishing experience and (of course) his own knowledge he is always open to suggestions. Your comments will always be welcomed.
Comfortable ride, Room to move and Style ..........

Unlike the so-called "fast boats" our clients are not crammed together on a tiny deckspace. With a perimeter of more than 100 feet, even if we had a full compliment of 15 anglers there is easily 6 feet (almost 2 metres) between you and the next angler.

Numbers will vary from 4 people (min) to 15 people (max) depending on demand. So the majority of time you will have even more  room to spread out.

Plus, we now have a galley with gas hobs and microwave. You cannot ask for more.
Murray is one of the few owner operators in the Bay of Islands and is very committed to ensuring your trip is enjoyable.

Terry is a well known character in the Bay of Islands. Born in Russell many many many years ago, Terry has seen the area grow and develop into what we see today. With forty five years experience in charter boat fishing here in the Bay he is the area's longest serving fishing skipper.

Arline Fishing Charters is a small company determined to provide a service that sets us apart from our competitors.

The crew and owners of make it their mission to create fishing trips that you will want to come back and experience all over again.

Your Boat
the "Awatea"

Our original boat, the Arline, came to grief during the long weekend in June 2011 when the mooring rope failed and she was washed up on Sullivans Beach during the night.

Once it was decided to write her off, we had to quickly search for a replacement boat. We couldn't believe our luck when we found the Awatea. I don't have her history yet  but she was built in 1947 and has a carvel hull constructed from Canadian Oregon. The topsides are fibreglassed and in fantastic condition.

Registered at 43ft in length, 15ft beam and 4ft draft with large above deck cabin, the Awatea is powered by a 180hp GM 671 diesel motor that produces a cruising speed of 8-10 knots.

      
















You could be forgiven for thinking that he has done it all. He has owned and operated several Charter Boats fishing for marlin, kingfish and Hapuku (Grouper). He's fished all up the coast from Auckland to North Cape. He's spent many cold nights laying and baiting up long-lines with hundreds of hooks. He's skippered large trawlers in the northern hemisphere. His knowledge is extensive and goes a long way to helping the Arline retain its reputation of being a very successful boat.

In short - he knows all the spots and the best time to try them.
