was perfect and although there was a big swell out there we were confident of getting out of it.

We headed out with a small group and tried 3I's for our first attempt. We were just on the edge of the swell and it was a good test to see how our clients could handle it if we had to head out into rougher water. Unfortunately the fish were consistently tiny so after about half an hour we pulled the pick and headed for our next spot.

We drifted off Roberton Island for half an hour but there was no real change (and we still had no keepers) so we headed for a favourite spot. We'd noticed that the few boats in sight were also moving around and searching so we were not that confident.

The initial results were a definite improvement on the past two, we started to catch a few keepers and managed one per customer measuring between 30-32cms. Not great but at least we were on the board.

The tide changed and the fish started to really take interest. We quickly achieved enough Snapper to feed my clients for a couple of days and then we caught a few more for Terry and myself.

Over the last hour we caught four beauty Snapper - two measuring close to 40cms, then Terry caught a 52cm Snapper and got pipped by Karen in the very last seconds when she pulled in a 54cm Snapper. She'd been catching fish all trip but had only caught 3 keepers - 29, 30, 32cms - and I'd thrown them all back. Understandably she was more than happy with this fish, it was worth the wait.

Linda Hoey struggled all trip to get a Snapper worth keeping. She managed three between 29-31cms but we didn't need them and I returned them to the water.

It was almost time to go home and Linda decided to have one more try.

With seconds to go she had success - measuring in at 54cms this lovely specimen was the biggest of the day (and she beat the Skippers fish by 2cms which made it even sweeter.)
