7th January -
NE winds again (incorrect forecast yet again) but another very, very nice day. We stopped off to catch some yellow tail mackerel for bait and caught enough to keep us supplied for the entire day. We started the day drifting in an area showing good sign on the fish finder but nothing was happening so when the sea breeze came up we dropped anchor and settled in for some serious fishing. It was pretty quiet most of the day but a steady procession of small Snapper was coming on board fairly regularly, interspersed with some keepers consisting of Snapper and  Terakihi. Terry pulled in a nice Snapper around 2.5kgs which stirred up a bit of interest and then when Chris hooked into his fish we were all keen to try and beat him. His fish was a very nice Snapper that turned out to be the fish of the day, weighing in at   exactly 5kgs.

Chris Batten with his 5kg snapper

Initially we thought that Chris Batten had toppled Janice in the competition but at the weigh-in at the end of the day  we confirmed that his 5kg Snapper wasn't quite big enough. Still a very nice fish.
