4th January -
The forecast was for 10 knot Southerly turning to 15 knot Sou-Westerly winds at the end of the day.....

5th January -
Another incredibly accurate forecast (queue the Tui's Advert.) The forecast was exactly the same as yesterday and it was of no surprise when the wind arrived at around 10am it was again from the NE. We had started to drift fish but the wind made it impossible to do it for long. The numerous boats nearby didn't seem to have any success either despite numerous gannets and penguins feeding on the pilchards in the water. Our only option was to anchor so we headed off to our previously successful rock and waited expectantly. Fishing here was a bit better with at least fish being caught but most were undersize. There was a brief moment of excitement when a school of about 40 Kingfish came past the boat but our baits were left untouched. With about an hour and a half to go we pulled anchor, crossed the bay and attempted drifting as the wind had dropped enough to allow for it. At the end of the day, we had 12 fish between 9 people - one Terakihi, the rest were Snapper. The biggest Snapper was only 4.5 lbs.
