Bay of Islands Fishing Report
4th December - This was the first of two trips with Kerikeri High School. Although we had beautiful conditions, gannets diving everywhere and a huge pod of dolphins cavorting nearby the fish kept their mouths firmly shut. We endured the lack of anything coming on board for just over an hour. Finally, admitting defeat we headed off to a reef that we hadn't been to for a very long time. Here, at least, we some hungry fish and we quickly had three legal fish in the bin, then it went dead again. Some of the kids were getting restless, then skipper Terry got a large snapper on the line. He gave the rod to one of the kids to pull it in and it turned out to be a very good fish. Suddenly it was all on. The kids started pulling big snapper on board one after another. No sooner had we got one fish in the bin, then we got another and another and on it went. A great day in the end and nine out of eleven kids pulled in at least one big fish.
My memory of names isn't good, so if anyone here can identify the kids for me I'd appreciate it. I'd also love to get some of the photos the teachers took to put up on this site.
The kids did really well today. They caught fantastic fish that a lot of adults would have had trouble pulling in. I had a great day and think that they did too.
