Bay of Islands Fishing Report
There was a bit of hamming it up after a reasonably successful day. I'm making a note to check the lens before I take the next batch of photos - Sorry about the watermarks

3rd January - The forecast was for 15 knot Northerlies turning to 20-30 knots South Westerly winds at the end of the day. However we believed that we would be back in Paihia before the weather worsened. We found that the swell had decreased from yesterday, which was good a a couple of people had concerns about sea sickness. All thoughts of sea sickness were dispelled when a huge pod of dolphins appeared. They were feeding and gannets were diving everywhere so we went over and checked them out (any excuse). Unfortunately there wasn't a lot to see on the fish finder so we went back to our original intended fishing spot. Our first fish was over 36cm and came on board within seconds of our lines being dropped but everything else was small. It was pretty quiet and low key until after midday when the fish size started to increase and the hits became a lot more regular. A couple of Mako sharks, a John Dory and a very respectable number of good sized Snapper made up the catches for today. Biggest snapper was 6lb, biggest fish was a Mako shark (got him to the boat but he broke the line before we could get a gaff to him - Sorry Gina, I know you wanted that one).
