1st January - What a beautiful way to celebrate the new year.

3rd January - The forecast was for 15 knot Northerlies turning to 20-30 knots South Westerly winds at the end of the day....


4th January - The forecast was for 10 knot Southerly turning to 15 knot Sou-Westerly winds at the end of the day.....


5th January - Another incredibly accurate forecast (queue the Tui's Advert) ....


6th January - SE winds were forecast and once again they came from the NE....

7th January - NE winds again (incorrect forecast yet again) but another very, very nice day...


8th January - The day was so pleasant that we, once again drifted for much of the day...


9th January - The main aim of this trip was an island visit and a bit of fishing.....


10th January - There was a huge swell so we were restricted to....


13th January - We were surprised to observe that the swell had dropped so much.....


15th January - Yahoo, the fish are back!


16th January - A definite improvement in fish stocks...


17th January - We headed out with high hopes and a reasonable forecast....


19th January - Gusty South Westerlies were forecast so we kept the group small....


20th January - The South Westerlies had dropped to a mere breeze...


21st January - Another very ordinary day. We headed out into deeper water....


23rd January - Light variable winds were forecast today so we were expecting calm water....


24th January - For the very first time we had picked up passengers from one of the visiting cruise ships .....


25th January - Another perfect day weather wise.....


26th January - Because the fish caught yesterday were the biggest.....

Francis with her best two snapper (2.2 and 2.8kgs) was beaten by her niece Alison who got the biggest snapper of the day (3.2kg)

29th January - The fish are back!! We headed out to our previously successful spot and found to our amusement that Blue Sea Charters had finally realised where the fish were (they'd seen us there on the previous days). Unfortunately for them and us the fish had moved as the wind had probably forced the fish further up the Kerikeri inlet. We tried for a while and pulled in a couple of very nice fish but it soon became obvious that the current wind direction had done some damage. We hauled anchor and headed into the middle of the bay to see if the wind had enticed the kahawai in. Imagine our delight when we immediately had several hits from large fish. They got away but it wasn't long before we landed a very nice 2.8kg snapper. This was quickly followed by a 2.2kg and then a 3.2kg snapper. Everyone was on high alert and we ended up with quite a few keepers and nothing under 30cm. For the first time in a couple of weeks, it looked like the potential to get a really big snapper was a possibility.
