28th December
- Easterly winds gradually rising to 35 knots and possible afternoon rain was in the forecast. However the forecast was changing every few hours so we thought it was worth trying. Along with a couple of regulars, we also had a Justin and his family on for their 3rd trip in a row so we felt obligated to try and get them out there as Justin (especially) was very keen. Conditions were pretty good considering the forecast. Although there was about a 1.5 metre swell it was reasonably gentle and the wind was about 10 knots. Although we knew of two places where the big fish were really hot the previous day, we were getting nothing but midgets today. The bait robbers forced us off the first place, the total lack of bites forced us off the second spot and the third (and last) spot produced a small skate, a small kahawai, the largest terakihi I've seen and three snapper that ranged between 32cm and 1.5 kilos. By the time we were getting ready to leave the wind was starting to increase and so was the swell. Forecast for tomorrow is 45 knots and rain so I don't think we'll be out for a few days.
