Harriet with her 11lb snapper
The Burgess 18lb snapper

A fun, light hearted day that resulted in some pretty good fish. The 11lb snapper pulled in by Mel's daughter, Harriet, was her biggest ever. The 18lb snapper on the right was caught by both father and son - the greedy monster had grabbed both hooks in a feeding frenzy and got the adrenalin pumping in the male line of the Burgess family.

Our Next Trip was....

28th December - Wind gradually rising to 35 knots and possible afternoon rain ....

27th December
- The day started with 10 knot easterlies which gradually strengthened to around 20 knots. Rain started appearing in the distance but veered off and harassed Paihia instead. We had checked out our final fishing spot of yesterday but there were no fish evident so we moved on. Our first stop produced the odd fish around 29-32cm but the bait was being stripped at an horrific rate by bait robbers so we moved after about an hour. We had observed a large number of boats also moving about the bay so it was looking like everyone was experiencing the same as us. The problem was, where to go? Luckily Terry decided to once again check out the high producing area of yesterday. We found fish there so we dropped anchor. It took about ten minutes for the first fish to strike but it was a good one of about a kilo. From then on the fish hit the lines regularly. Our biggest fish of the day was a father, son team effort. They both had a fish on and I joked that one had the tail and the other had the head as both their fish had struck at the same time. It turned out that this 18lb monster had grabbed one bait then immediately grabbed another and therefore had two hooks in his mouth. Can't get fairer than that.
