26th January -
Because the fish caught yesterday were the biggest that we had seen in the last 2-3 weeks, we headed back to the same spot today. The breeze was still very light so we had planned on doing more drifting. On the way we were joined by a pod of dolphins. They were being followed by one of the dolphin viewing boats when a bunch of these lovely mammals peeled off and shot over for a play under our bow. We were treated to their antics for about five minutes as they competed with each other to get the prime position right under the bow. Back to the fishing...the first spot was on an area of foul ground that looked promising so we dropped anchor but after 15 minutes of zero activity we moved. The second spot was the same area as yesterday and there was a lot of fish life there. The wind had strengthened so we dropped anchor again. It was a bit of a slow start but eventually it started to tick along. We kept nothing under 30cm and we ended up with a few fish in the 3-4lb range. Every fish was of fillet-able quality. About 1pm the wind had died completely so we pulled anchor and drifted but without much success as the fish had stopped biting. It was hot and very still. We tried a couple of places on the way home but the fish had lost interest completely. Never mind, we had enough fish for everyone and it had been a beautiful day.

Dolphins under our bow
Dolphins under our bow still

A great start to the trip with these dolphins jostling for the prime spot under our bow
