15th January -
Yahoo, the fish are back! We had heard that the kahawai had appeared yesterday and knew that there was now the possibility of the snapper reappearing. So with great expectations we headed out into the bay. The swell was minimal so we drifted amongst a number of other boats out in the middle but the fishing was deader than dead. So we headed off to the place that had reportedly done pretty well for Kahawai the previous day. Dead again. So we took a punt and dropped the anchor. As time went on the fishing got better and better. We only got one Kahawai but we also scored half a dozen Trevally, a John Dory and so many snapper it was unbelievable.  The snapper just got bigger and bigger as the day progressed. Our biggest was only 5lbs but it looks like the big ones are coming back. It took an hour for two of us to fillet everything on the way home. We also spotted large Kahawai schools on the way home. Happy? I was wrapped and I'm sure my customers were too.
