We were off to a slow start but when the fish started biting it was all on. The Taylors had a wee wager on the biggest fish and although Alan, Gav and Rob gave it a good go, they couldn't quite match Elaine's fish. Everyone enjoyed being able to return so many females to the water.
14th December - With seven people on board we headed out with high expectations. We left our previous fishing area alone and headed out into the middle of the bay. Signs were very good with gannets diving everywhere and Jesus birds dancing on the surface of the water all over the place (indicating that spawning snapper we definitely here). We drifted for 3 hours and only caught 5 snapper over 30cm. The big ones just weren't interested. We stayed and waited for the afternoon breeze to kick in which, as past experience told us the breeze should excite the snapper into biting. The company was good and the weather fantastic. When the breeze started we got a hit, ten minutes later we got two more and then it was happening regularly. The people on board wanted to release all the females so we were releasing quite a few fish up to 20lb's. The 25lb snapper shown here was only kept as we were not certain that he could be safely released.
